Meet The Staff

Laura Bowers  Head of the Peacock Gym Academy

Laura is the Head of the Academy and leads on BTEC Performing Arts and Work Skills courses. She teaches both dance and drama as well organising extra curricular events such as trips to the theatre for the Students. Laura Has a degree in BA (Hons) in Dance. She has achieved a Jazz Award Silver in Modern Theatre and has performed in a variety of dance showcases nationwide. Laura has received training in Inter-agency Child Protection. 

Dunston Walker Management Team Leader

Dunston is the Team Leader at the Academy, he is responsible in managing the Academy’s budgeting and fundraising. Dunston secures working partnerships with the Academy. He has graduated with a BA in History and MA Twentieth century American History.

Deonne Newby  Management Supervisor & English Functional Skills Teacher

Deonne is the Supervisor at the Academy, who is responsible in helping to manage the Academy and teaches English to our students. Deonne has graduated with a degree in BA Hons Youth & Community Work. Her past experience consists of working as a Year Head Leader for Sarah Bonnell School and an Arts Youth Worker in Barking & Dagenham.

Rezwana Khanom Attendance & Welfare Officer

Rezwana is responsible for the registration and attendance at the Academy. She deals with the Service Level Agreement’s and contracts between the schools. Rezwana is a graduate in BSC International Politics, and has carried out extensive research on Britain’s minority population. She worked as a mentor at a secondary school, where she taught GCSE English to students. Rezwana has competed in public speaking competitions, and was a semifinalist in a public speaking competition sponsored by Citi Group.

Tasneem Islam Marketing Executive

Tasneem deals with the Marketing and PR at the Academy, she is responsible for keeping our social media pages updated and gaining awareness of the Academy. She liaises and networks with schools for potential referrals and promotion of programmes delivered at the Academy. Tasneem has graduated with a BA in Business Management and specialises in marketing. She has previously worked with A-Level Maths students and has assisted Maths tutors during teaching sessions.

Kate Newby  Hair and Beauty Teacher

Kate is trained in the Hair and Beauty industry and has been qualified for 7 years. She has a NVQL3 &2 In Beauty and NVQL2 In hair. She currently teaches a Level 1 in an Introduction to the Hair and Beauty Sector. She enjoys working within this industry as it allows her to be more creative with her work. Kate is also Dermalogica trained and ensures smooth running of our new Peacock Salon.

Shelley Pettifer  Exams Officer

Shelley is trained in the Hair and Beauty industry and is a qualified hairdresser for 21 years. She helps to ensure that the Peacock Salon is running smoothly, as well as being our Exam’s Officer to ensure that the Academy’s modules are running properly.

Louis Bowers  Music Teacher

Louis teaches music as part of the performing arts course at the academy. As a multi-instrumentalist who teaches piano, guitar, bass or drums, he is able to get students to perform in groups. Louis is also a gigging musician who understands all facets of the music industry. Louis has achieved a National diploma in Popular Music and has gained two written recommendations. He is currently attending university to study for a Music degree.

Owen Matthews Sports Tutor

Owen is a sports tutor at the academy, he delivers sports qualifications and gym classes to our students, provides 1:1 mentoring. Owen leads group personal development workshops. These sessions are crucial in providing our students with life skills, social skills and improving the behaviour and well being of our students. Outside of the Peacock academy, Owen works with young players at Football academies, schools and at children’s homes. He is the founder of the Development Plus Plus Project, which works with young people that are at risk or from backgrounds that are affected by crime and violence.

Dean Newby Sports Tutor

Dean tutors the students at the Academy and delivers Sports Level 1 teaching the students the basics of basketball with sports sessions within a classroom by providing one to one mentoring and help students to improve on their behaviour and mannerisms.         

Raf Karnus Fitness Trainer

Raf is a qualified personal trainer at the Peacock, he runs fitness sessions to our students; which not only benefits the students physically, it also teaches them discipline. He is a qualified Mixed Martial Arts trainer and has experience in teaching self-defence, Judo, Muay Thai, Hockey, Basketball, Ice-Skating and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Along with his sports qualifications, Raf has a Level 4 Skills for life qualification, and a Level 1 in IT.

Andre Olley Boxing Coach

Andre has over 20 years coaching experience and is currently the Peacock Amateur Boxing Club Coach and opened the Montegal Boxing Club with Tony Byford. Andre was also a professional heavyweight boxer, his first fight was with Don Charles and he KO’d in the second round. He is a qualified ABA Senior Coach, has achieved a certificate for Sports Coach Safety and Injury, Equity in Coaching and is a qualified first aider.

Bianka Nixon Business Teacher

Bianka has achieved a Level 3 Award in Business Skills, Business & Administration, Edexcel BTEC Level 2 in Team Leading and a Level 3 certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement. Bianka’s achievements helped her to pursue her career at the Academy to deliver Business and help the students to find part time/full time courses to do at college, as well as, apply for jobs within the work industry. 

Anthony Oladipo Teaching Assistant

Anthony started off as a volunteer working with the students and supported class sessions. After seeing Anthony’s positivity and vibrant personality it was decided for Anthony to stay on at the Peacock Gym Academy. He achieved a BA Hons Business Economics and now helps alongside with Bianka teaching the students the basics of Work Skills and how to run a business.

Jodie Robson Head Student Mentor

Jodie displayed leadership qualities whilst she was a student at the Academy, she received Mentor Training with the Streets of Growth that enhanced her existing mentoring skills. She is a qualified first aider and has achieved a Level One in Business Administration. Jodie has attended college and studied a Level 2 NVQ in Hairdressing, she works at the Academy on a full-time basis now.

Brandon Gaunt Student Mentor

Brandon is a former student and one of our student mentors. Brandon studied a Level 1 in Hair & Beauty, Performing Arts and Sports. After leaving the Academy he also gained a qualification in Hair & Media make up. He free lances as a make up artist applying face painting and make up. Once qualified he returned to the Peacock family where he helps to deliver the Hair & Beauty course, as well as, leading fitness sessions with the students. He has been selected as a mentor as he has shown great leadership skills.

Shah Uddin Student Mentor

Shah attended the Peacock Academy to study our Post-16 course, with a Sports qualification, however, after seeing progress from him, Shah then joined us as a mentor to help and support the Sports programme. He also attended a Football Academy before he attended the Peacock Gym Academy.
